Layout Descriptions, Open House Times and Day:
St. Louis Division of the Nickel Plate Road OPEN HOUSE HOURS Sunday 11:00 AM- 3:00 PM |
Tony Koester's HO layout is set in the the fall of 1954 when steam
still ruled the St. Louis Division of the Nickel Plate Road. The roughly 30 x 60-foot railroad is multi-deck with a 500-foot mainline run through nine towns and small cities in west-central Indiana and
east-central Illinois. The main line is operational, one yard and an associated soybean plant are largely complete, and Tony is just starting to add passing tracks, interchanges, and industrial sidings elsewhere on the railroad. He uses NCE's DCC system, and steam and diesel locomotives are equipped with sound decoders. Very little scenery is finished, but layout cosmetics -- lighting, carpeting,

Chesapeake & Ohio / Mann's Creek Railways OPEN HOUSE HOURS Sunday 11:00 AM- 4:00 PM |
Chesapeake & Ohio / Mann's Creek Railways Set in 1937, Ted's 450 sq ft HO layout depicts the C&O railroad between Hawks Nest, WV on the New River Sub and Allegheny, VA. A co-feature is the Mann's Creek narrow gauge logging and coal hauling railroad that interchanges with the C&O at Sewell, WV. Thurmond and Hinton are the other featured design elements. Track work is 90 percent complete and to the degree practical, is prototypically accurate. Scenery is not yet commenced. Sound equipped locomotives are controlled by a wireless NCE DCC system. An interesting approach to lighting and the use of unusual building materials maybe of interest.

Pittsburgh, Shawmut & Northern RR OPEN HOUSE HOURS Sunday 11:00 AM- 4:00 PM |
I model the Pittsburgh, Shawmut & Northern RR in 1923 which was mainly a coal hauling line carrying bituminous coal from the Shawmut coal fields in west central Pa. to an interchange with the DL&W at Wayland N.Y. I operate with NCE digital control and am presently converting all engines with Tsunami decoders. Operation is controlled by time table and train orders.

New York Harbor Railroad OPEN HOUSE HOURS Saturday 6:00 PM- 9:00 PM (Will not be open on the snow date) |
The New York Harbor Railroad is an HO scale representation of railroading in New York City during 1947. Being modeled are: The New York Central’s 30th Street Yard, Terminal Stores and the West Side Freight Line; The Erie Railroad’s 28th Street Carfloat yard; The Lehigh Valley’s 27th Street yard. As of December 2006 the construction is about %40 done. Final plans for the Lehigh Valley have been drawn up as well as for the St. John’s Park on the West Side Freight Line. All but the Staging “Mole” yard is hand laid track. The layout is controlled by NCE DCC.

Lehigh Valley Harbor Terminal RR
OPEN HOUSE HOURS Saturday 6:00 PM- 10:00 PM |
Ralph Heiss' Lehigh Valley Harbor Terminal Layout represents the LVRR's river front yard located on New York Harbor, and set in the timeframe of the late 1948-1958 in Jersey City, NJ. The range of era allows for certain operational aspects that did not coexist with each other, such as passenger operations along side certain post-1950 equipment, as well as the availability of operational info that he has been able to compile regarding operations.

New York Society of Model Engineers
OPEN HOUSE HOURS Saturday 6:00 PM- 9:00 PM |
NYSME was originally organized in 1926 in New York City. In its early years, the organization moved to and from various locations throughout Manhattan. In the early 1940's, the organization moved to the Lackawanna's Hoboken Terminal. However, during the mid-1950's the organization moved to its current location in Carlstadt, NJ. At our present location, our organization features two operating model railroad displays. One railroad, The Union Connecting, models two rail O-Scale. (1/4" to the foot) The other railroad, The Union, Hoboken, and Overland, models HO scale. (1/8" to the foot). NYSME holds two public exhibitions of the layouts around Christmas time and in the early spring. However the club does hold a work sessions every Wednesday night starting around 7 p.m. Visitors are welcome to come by but there is no guarantee that any trains will be operating.
